Atlanta Speeding Ticket Lawyer
Atlanta drivers have a duty to obey the rules of the road at all times behind the wheel of their vehicle. Unfortunately, drivers often ignore the road’s posted speed limit, which can lead to an Atlanta speeding ticket.
As you are aware, drivers are required to comply with the road’s posted speed limit. Failure to obey can result in dangerous accidents and put themselves and others at risk for injury.
In Georgia, violations for speeding are taken very seriously. Municipal courts frequently impose fines and penalties on those individuals that drive in excess of the road’s posted speed limit.
In addition to the fine, drivers who violate the speed limit may receive points on their Georgia driver’s license. If a driver accumulates too many points, it can cause a driver’s license suspension.
Just paying the fine for the speeding ticket may be your natural reaction if you received a ticket in Atlanta. But just paying a fine will result in unintended consequences.
Under Georgia law, if you pay your speeding ticket, it is considered a guilty plea, which could lead to points on your Georgia driver’s license.

Georgia Traffic Ticket Point System
If a person goes over the designated speed limit for the road, they are violating the law.
If you acquire 15 points over a 24-month period, you will have a suspended license. In Georgia, the point system for speeding is as follows:
- 15-18 mph over the posted speed limit: 2 points
- 19-23 mph over the posted speed limit: 3 points
- 24-33 mph over the posted speed limit: 4 points
- 34 mph over the posted speed limit: 6 points
If you are traveling over 85 mph or more on any highway or road in Georgia or going 75 mph or more on a two-lane road, along with the speeding ticket fine, the department of driver services will issue you a super speeder fine, which costs $200 per offense. If you do not make this payment within 120 days of the notice, your license may be suspended.
